Connecting.808 is my diploma project at the University of Art and Design Offenbach and explores alternative forms of interaction in electronic music production. The project emerged from a critical examination of established hardware systems, whose growing functional capabilities are often accompanied by increasingly complex and abstract modes of operation.

Rather than reducing this complexity by limiting creative possibilities, Connecting.808 investigates how interaction itself can be fundamentally reorganised. Musical tracks are decomposed into their individual sonic elements, such as drums, basslines, vocals or melodies, and distributed across physical modules. Through spatial relationships, movement and gesture, these elements can be combined, manipulated and experienced as part of a tangible musical system.

The project brings together industrial design, interaction design, interface development and technological prototyping to explore a central question: how can the capabilities of digital music production be made physically accessible without sacrificing their creative depth?

Following the completion of my diploma, Connecting.808 received a startup grant, enabling the concept to continue beyond its academic origins. The system has since evolved into ONDA AUDIO, an independent brand and product venture through which the original concept is being further developed towards production readiness.

The underlying technological concept is currently subject to a pending patent application.
